Enterprise week - Designing

Year 3 have started designing their products to sell at our Enterprise market on Friday.

We have spent some of our £10 start up loan on resources and materials and are ready to make.

Trip to the Crown Hotel!

WOW! What an amazing morning Year 3 had

We all walked to the Crown Hotel in town to learn about their business as part of our Enterprise week.

When we arrived we were treated to juice and biscuits - the adults were treated too! We saw how the business has been able to continue operating whilst the building work is being done by setting up Sealy@The Pop-up Crown.

Tim, the Construction site manager, came to meet us and gave us a present...our very own high vis jackets! We had to put them on to make sure we were safe on site. He explained why we had to make sure we signed in and out of the building site and told us about some of the things we were going to be seeing.

We learnt how the workers keep safe when they have to remove asbestos from a site - we learnt that asbestos is a really harmful mineral which used to be used in buildings. They wore special protective clothing and masks to make sure they were safe. We watched them working on the CCTV camera!
It was exciting to see parts of the building which we wouldn't normally be allowed into.
We followed Tim into the rooms which were safe to look around and he pointed out all the wires and pipe work that has to go in before the ceilings and floors.

After looking around downstairs, we went upstairs to see what they were working on. None of the rooms have doors and some don't have walls yet! We got to have a sneaky peek at how the different workers are constructing the new bedrooms and bathrooms.
Tim explained that each room has a plan on the wall. This is so everyone knows where things should be. They have to take and use careful measurements.

There will be a bathroom above this ceiling when it is finished.

We took the safe way down back to where we started!

It was so interesting to see. We saw lots of things that we wouldn't usually get the chance to see. Thank you so much everyone at the Crown Hotel and to Tim and the construction company for making it safe for us to visit.

On the way home we spotted lots more businesses too!

Oh, and the best bit is... we have been invited back to see the progress in April. We can not wait!
